Night Raid

On the 10th SEP 1942 Wellington bomber Z1216 of 460 Squadron RAAF took of from Breighton Airfield in Yorkshire UK to raid Dusseldorf in Germany.
Z1216 was intercepted at midnight by a BF110 above Bienen in the Mainz-Bingen district in Rhineland-Palatinate the Wellington was destroyed and crashed with the loss of the entire crew.
The crew were initially interred in a nearby WWI cemetery but later moved to the Rheinberg War Cemetery.

Local man Albert Brown was born and raised in Wellington. He went to the Intermediate High School in town and worked as a storeman until he enlisted.
He was the son of Albert Edward and Margaret Isabell Brown.
